A fool's advice: the truth about words

Oct 11, 2017

All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed. If I don’t get some shelter, I think I will break down and try another method. Maybe you’ve been brainwashed too: the mirror is not that reliable

It’s just a shot away

Anyway, the day started on a good note: I have an arsenal of hooks available in any situation, to start a paragraph. Ernest Hemingway: “There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed”. Let it bleed.

I am gross and perverted, I have existed for years but very little has changed. I’m the fool of music and psychology too, for I am destined to analyse that cosmic debris who pushed me into the worst place on Earth.

Usual suspects are lust, greed, glory, money, spite, love, necessity and misunderstanding. Maybe a desert rose also, from Vegas to nowhere. Translate? From secrecy to a stranger’s coat.

I’m free from your spell

“Gimme Shelter” is the opening track to the 1969 album Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones. Although the first word was spelled “Gimmie” on that album, subsequent recordings by the band and other musicians have made “Gimme” the customary spelling.

Rolling Stone magazine at the time of its release, praised the song, stating that the band has “never done anything better.”  The recording also features superb vocals by pregnant Merry Clayton, recorded at a last-minute late-night recording session during the mixing phase, arranged by her friend and record producer.

“Gimme Shelter”, an anti-war song, was written by the Rolling Stones’ lead vocalist Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards, the band’s primary songwriting team. Jagger said in a 1995 interview: “Well, it’s a very rough, very violent era. That’s a kind of end-of-the-world song, really.”

2012 interview: “It was a very moody piece about the world closing in on you a bit. It’s been used a lot to evoke natural disaster”. In their 2012 50th anniversary tour, the Rolling Stones sang this song with Mary J. Blige, Florence Welch, and Lady Gaga.

Michel Gondry, an Academy Award-winning French filmmaker, directed a music video for the song, which was released in 1998. Martin Scorsese has used this song in three of his films. A website ranked this song 9th among the “Top 10 Overused Songs In Movies And TV”.

Merry Clayton appears in the Oscar-winning movie 20 Feet from Stardom, produced by a music industry executive whose curiosity to know more about the lives of background singers inspired the making of the film.

All I need is time, energy and focus

All I need is an appropriate way to get rid of that awful feeling: “sir, this briefing is on 1988, and war children”. “They left me hangin’, hangin’ from a limb” (sic) and, if I don’t do anything, sweet memory will die.

I learned about a triune brain that is supposed to model the human brain: reptilian, limbic and the neocortex (some people say you also have to separate left and right parts of the brain, it is called lateralization). My take is there must be a 4th brain that appeared not a long time ago (surely after 1945).

The more I think about it, the more I suffer from Stockholm syndrome, meaning I developed empathy for my torturer. I think his mindset is: “you are wrong and I am right” (something I used to say when I was less than 14 years old). All I need is to smell the sea and feel the sky.

I have been elected by my peers to solve that mystical question, and we did it: L’Amour monstre (monstrous love). Every victory has a taste that’s bittersweet; I guess that’s why I feel so restless, as if I had made a great effort to catch that drop shot, like Michels Stich (parental advisory). Injustice, misunderstanding, it’s just a shot away!

Should be the one behind the wheel

If you drive a car, make sure to remain sober. In terms of psyche, the totality of the human mind, conscious and unconscious, you have a boss in you. And it is a matter of regulation and modulating influences.

One day, I was composing a song and decided to use a part of a stupid song like “Come Baby Come” by K7 (1993). I have always been influenced by music and sounds; it makes sense to regulate those influences in order to make a great piece of music.

Lately, I can’t ignore the fact that I have let 1945 take the wheel and stir. With unintelligible passivity, lazy and selfish people have demonstrated their lack of guilt and shame towards crimes against humanity.

Ignorance has taken over so let’s straighten this out: one hour from now, people are dying (civilians and soldiers) but rest assured that the main casualties are civilians. They are surveillance lovers: they took our hearts and we can feel it.

When you think about the civil war in Lebanon, it stopped because of lassitude, not because someone won or lost the war. In game theory, attrition warfare does not convey any clear hints about intentions. That is the trademark of our stupid neighbours: Israel and Syria, along with chemical weapons. Fatigue, nausea, it’s just a shot away!

I have no place to stay now

What separates a great song from a stupid song? I met a girl once and we started having a chat together. She told me she loved Marc Levy‘s books, a French novelist. My thing is music, but I guess I could write a book, if no decent melody comes to mind.

Needless to say that I have no place to stay, now that the levee broke; I am still shaking at the knees. But I have enough information now to take over the planet and rule the world. I thought about my headquarters, located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Michels Odoul, a French doctor, once wrote that when your knees are hurting, you have a problem with your role in a relationship. It also sends shivers up and down my spine, but it’s aching all the time.

Strange brew! Accounting does a lot of mistakes, that’s when I know I hit the bottomless pit of apathy. It seems the brain is responsible for accounting. My theory is that no one is innocent except me. I mean, “the West has killed 10 million people fighting terrorism” (sic). I wonder if Syria could deal with the doctor that promised to get me into shape.

Dragon, Komodo varan, it’s just a shot away! The Komodo dragon is a large species of lizard found in the Indonesian islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores, Gili Motang, and Padar. Their unusually large size has been attributed to island gigantism. Would you surrender to the dragon in your dreams?

This is how I feel without music

Do you want to prevent bad disease or other weird stuff like rape and murder? In that case, make sure to rest and digest! This is a basic response of the nervous system, along with fight or flight and the lesser known freeze and dissociate. If you are cold as ice, check out your environment quick before it’s too late.

Nature is not that stupid and it seems some important functions of the human psyche are now automatic because it is vital. Hence, the unconscious mind is relieved and soon I will be free. I got 25 million dollars stress in the knees and you can tell in my superb attitude that I don’t know what to do.

By now, I should have figured out what not to do! What can you say when a love affair is over? Bye bye Paris, 300 days of grey a year is more than a man can take. Even if you want to become a great artist (I once read that bad weather creates wonderful artists, like in Seattle, USA).

For example, Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain are from Seattle and I think they will agree. Who needs action when you got words? Who needs Baghdad when you got Damascus?

I don’t need permission, I won’t be denied

If someone is lost for words, make sure to check his education and make sure to do some re-education. I went to spa treatment once: it was awesome. Confidence in them, confidence in me.

It lasted 2 years and I blew it all at the victimisation arcade: Michels would say “you are sending your soldiers to a certain death, general (with liver problems)”. Maybe I’m just tired of war and those people that are pushing us to bicker about stupid things.

No, I don’t think that murder is not a crime. No, I don’t think that rape is normal. Why am I having a good time writing the next line? I’m just telling a bit of a truth.

I am a big fan of western comic Blueberry (aka Mike ‘Michels’ Steve Blueberry); I used to finish an episode and long for the next. Will I ever be understood in the living years? What about you? If I told you I had to kill Bill, would you understand?

Oh, a storm is threat’ning
My very life today
If I don’t get some shelter
Oh yeah, I’m gonna fade away

War, children
It’s just a shot away (2x)

Ooh, see the fire is sweepin’
Our very street today
Burns like a red coal carpet
Mad bull lost its way

Rape, murder!
It’s just a shot away (2x)

The floods is threat’ning
My very life today
Gimme, gimme shelter
Or I’m gonna fade away

War, children, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
I tell you love, sister, it’s just a kiss away
It’s just a kiss away

Kiss away, kiss away
